Scope and Contents

The collection consists of letters in German (mostly handwritten) from L. Stuebe to fellow pastors or to the District Mission Board. The letters have been transcribed into Latin characters and have been translated into English. Also included is brief biographical material.

Biographical note:

The Rev. Ludwig Frederick Emil Stuebe was born in Williamsburg, Wisconsin, on December 23, 1876. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1900. He served parishes as Pastor in Blooming (Cornelius), Oregon; Forest Grove, Oregon; Shefflin, Oregon; Seghers, Oregon; and Strasburg, Illinois. He also served the Northwest District (Oregon and Washington District at that time) as travelling missionary, as school teacher, as District President (1909-1918), and as a Board member for Concordia College. He married Martha Schoknecht in 1901. He died March 3, 1946, in Strasburg.
