Historical Note:

Five Lutheran congregations in the Yakima Valley, Washington, formed a partnership in 1974 to sponsor a ministry among the Hispanic people in the Valley. The congregations included Hope, Wapato; Bethlehem, Yakima; Faith (ALC), Toppenish; Calvary, Sunnyside; and Messiah, Prosser. In 1975, the Northwest District of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod resolved to support this ministry work in the Valley. The Yakima Valley Hispanic-American Mission Committee was formed in conjunction with the Mission Committee of the Northwest District. The venture became pan-Lutheran with the addition of Faith Lutheran Church, Toppenish, Washington, to the committee; the headquarters of the committee was moved to Faith in 1984. After Iglesia Cristo del Valle Lutheran Church was established in 1997 and the Northwest District ministry structure was revised, the committee no longer functioned.
