Historical note:

The Lutheran Business Women organization was formed in October, 1949, in Portland, Oregon. It was patterned after a similar organization located in St. Louis, Missouri. The purpose of the organization, according to the original constitution, was "to help interest and federate our Lutheran business and professional women for converted service to the church in various Christian endeavors and to promote recreational activities." In addition to socializing, the group had various programs, often with guest speakers, for learning and entertainment. They met in homes, in churches, and in restaurants. They carried out various charitable projects, including a standing project of giving a scholarship to a Concordia University student. Because the constitution called for "pastoral supervision," over the years a series of pastors served as counselors. At one time the organization had about 70 members, but by 1999 the membership had dwindled to less than ten, so they decided to disband. The last meeting was a luncheon meeting on October 26, 1999. The final $112 in the treasury was send to Concordia University.
