Northwest District (LCMS) Publications Collection
Scope and Contents
The earliest publication is from 1884. The succession of titles indicates the changing way in which the District was administered.
The records are in two Series: Series I is made up of publications of general interest within the district. The publications contain news, official notices, and records of official acts.
Series II contains more specialized publications, mostly of interest to clergy and other church worker groups.

Oregon-Washington District Clergy Bulletin
"Published by-monthly by the District Executive Secretary [William Hillmer]." The title was changed to Northwest District Clergy Bulletin in 1949. The Northwest District has no.1 to vol.9, no. 5 (Dec. 1943-Mar. 1949).
Clergy Bulletin : Northwest District
“Issued by the President's Office.” A bulletin of information and inspiration for professional church workers (vol.7, no.3). The Northwest District has vol.3, no. 7, to vol. 6 (1967-December 1970).
The Northwest Passage.
Continued the Clergy Bulletin. Merged with the Northwest District Edition of The Lutheran Witness in September, 1981. June 1981 was the last issue. The Northwest District has vol. 7 to vol.17 (1971-1981).
Cords and Stakes
“A publication of interest and encouragement from the Northwest District Staff to the District professional workers.” Continued The Northwest Passage. In 1991 the title was abbreviated to The Cords. Published 1984-2001.

Historical Note
What is today called The Northwest District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod was first organized as the California and Oregon District in 1887. In 1899, a reorganization led to formation of the Oregon and Washington District, and, effective 1 January 1949, the name was changed to The Northwest District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Der lutherische Botschafter began publication before the founding of the District.
