Northwest District (LCMS) Convention Documents Collection
Scope and Contents
The records contain the published Proceedings of each convention, together with any pre-convention documents that were prepared and/or published; correspondence; and occasional photos. From 1936-1940 the Proceedings were published in The Lutheran Messenger. The proceedings for 1948-1957 were published in The Lutheran Witness District Supplements. If no copies of the proceedings are included in the folders, references are given to the specific periodical issues in which the proceedings may be located. Convention essays and Presidential Reports, if not printed in the Proceedings, are sometimes included as separate documents.

Historical note
What is today called The Northwest District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod was first organized as the California and Oregon District in 1887.
In 1899, a reorganization led to the name Oregon and Washington District, and, effective 1 January 1949, the name was changed to The Northwest District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Published by the District, 1949- . [OCLC #12101450]
Following each convention, a record of the proceedings was published, at first in a separate publication, then as an issue of an official periodical, and back to a separate publication again. From 1925 to 1978 the minutes of the conventions were prepared separately from the proceedings; they were handwritten through 1948 and typed through 1976. From 1978 on the minutes were included in the published proceedings. From 1942 onward a pre-convention publication (Workbook) was issued to report on district activities and to inform delegates of the matters to come before the assembly.
