Historical note
The church was organized on October 24, 1878, near Middleton, Washington County, Oregon, as the First German Evangelical Lutheran St. Paulus Congregation of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession. It was the first congregation received into the Oregon-Washington District. Rev. August Kenter came to Middleton in 1876 and began to hold services. The first church building was erected in 1881; a new brick building was constructed in 1930. A school was started in the fall of 1892, using the church building until a school building was built in 1905. The school closed in 1968 to make way for a multipurpose educational building. A detailed history of the congregation was prepared for the centennial observance.
